How to Search Your Chrome Bookmarks (and What to Do When That Isn’t Enough)

Two built-in ways to find a bookmark, a folder setup that holds up, and the point where Chrome’s tools stop being enough.

Chrome has bookmarks, a bookmark manager and search. Plenty of people still can’t find the page they saved, because a bookmark is a title and a link. Here is how to use what Chrome gives you first.

TL;DR

Use the address bar shortcut for quick lookups and Bookmark Manager for sorting. If you often can’t remember a page’s title, the problem is what a bookmark stores, and a different kind of tool will help more than a better folder tree.

Quick answer: 3 ways to find a Chrome bookmark

Steps are from Google’s Chrome help page on bookmarks. Menu names can change with updates.
MethodHowBest for
Address barType @bookmarks, press Tab or Space, then keywordsA bookmark whose title you partly remember
Bookmark ManagerChrome menu, Bookmarks and lists, Bookmark ManagerBrowsing and sorting everything
Folders and barBookmarks bar or folders you createdA short list you open every day

Search from the address bar

In the address bar, type @bookmarks, then press Tab or Space. Enter keywords and pick the match from the list. This is the fastest route when you remember a word from the page title. The steps are on Google’s page about managing bookmarks in Chrome.

Use Bookmark Manager

Open the Chrome menu at the top right, go to “Bookmarks and lists”, and choose “Bookmark Manager”. “Show all bookmarks” opens a navigation panel instead. To make a folder, select More at the top right of Bookmark Manager, then “Add new folder”. If the bookmarks bar is on, you can right-click it and choose “Add Folder”.

Signed in to Chrome with your Google Account, your bookmarks are available on your other devices. That helps you find them anywhere, though it doesn’t help you search them better.

A folder setup that doesn’t fall apart

  • Few folders, named for how you’ll look. “Taxes 2026” beats “Misc”.
  • Edit the title when you save. Add the reason in your own words. “Fix for slow laptop” will match your later search.
  • Prune once a month. Delete dead links so the list stays scannable.

Many people still end up with hundreds of unsorted links. We explain why in Stop using nested folders for bookmarks.

Where Chrome bookmarks stop working

A bookmark stores a title and a URL. It doesn’t store what the page said, and it can’t hold the content of a Reel, TikTok or post that was deleted later. Searching by a word you remember from the body won’t match unless that word is in the title you saved. We cover the longer version in why Chrome bookmarks fail.

If you save Reels, videos and posts too

Cruxr turns a shared link or image into a note: a headline, summary, key points and tags, with keyword search over those notes. On paid plans (Pro and Pro Max) it also transcribes video speech. It isn’t a browser bookmark replacement for every page you open, and it doesn’t import your Chrome bookmarks. There’s a Chrome extension for saving, and no iOS app yet. FAQ

How do I search bookmarks in Chrome?

Type @bookmarks in the address bar, press Tab or Space, then type keywords and pick a match. You can also open Bookmark Manager from the Chrome menu under Bookmarks and lists.

Where is the Chrome bookmark manager?

Open the Chrome menu at the top right, go to Bookmarks and lists, then choose Bookmark Manager. Show all bookmarks opens a navigation panel.

Do Chrome bookmarks sync across devices?

Yes, when you sign in to Chrome with your Google Account, your bookmarks are available on your other devices, according to Google’s help page.

Does Chrome search the text inside a bookmarked page?

Google’s help page describes searching bookmarks by keyword and does not say it reads the page text. A bookmark stores a title and a link, so a word that appears only in the article body is unlikely to help. Test it with a page you know.

What is a good alternative to Chrome bookmarks?

It depends on what you save. For articles and links, a read-it-later or bookmark manager helps. For Reels, videos and posts, a tool that turns them into searchable text works better. Our comparison is in the related reading below.
